Ginwol aqueduct

This aqueduct was about to be torn down. Aqueducts in Korea have a tendency to loose its function within certain periods of time after the construction due to the loss of construction function in the bridge bearing and variable lengths due to the change in temperature. All of these factors cause damage to the pier. Korea E&C's Dr. Byun Hangyong defined such phenomenon as a "Aqueduct Damage Mechanism" in his book . The life expectancy of a reinforced aqueduct is semi permanent. The Ginwol Aqueduct that was about to be torn down was reinforced by jacking up the top water ways and changing the expansion equipment to a non-rusting rubber. It has been 8 years since the reinforcement in 2007, but the aqueduct is still standing strong.
