Hyogok Bridge was raised to match the increased height of the dam due to the increased height of the bridge. The existing methods would have reconstructed the bridge by tearing it down and constructing the bypass while rebuilding the old one, or they would only use a slab to raise the height. However, this method resulted in much waste and over spending of the budgets. This can also increase the risk of destruction of the bridge during an earthquake due to the shift in the weight load. Hyogok Bridge reinforcement project is considered as an environment friendly construction without preventing cars from passing by and destructing its original shape of the bridge.
